TV star Claire Sweeney looks unrecognisable ahead of her debut on Coronation Street and teased her transformation is as “rough as anything.”
The glam actress, 52, said she initially looked so different from her usual “Scouse” ways, that she was left “traumatised” by the results.
She is set to play Tyrone Dobbs’ mum, Cassie, in the episode which will air next week on June 28.

The blonde bombshell has hidden her bouncy locks under a baseball cap as she takes on the role of a recovering drug addict.
“I want her to be so far removed from me and the minute I get the clothes on, the leggings, the Converse, the cap and looking really rough, I then become that character,” she explained.
Her transformation was so convincing that she even fooled her fellow cast members.
She added: “On my first day of filming on the Cobbles, one of the extras went I didn’t recognise you like that and I thought ‘brilliant’.”
Claire praised the show’s make-up team but admitted she found some of the makeover difficult to take in.
“Being a Scouser, getting my nails and lashes off is quite traumatic,” the star joked.
“She’s really stripped back and the makeup design have done a fantastic job of making me look as rough as anything.”
She described her character as a loose cannon and warned viewers that Evelyn Plummer lied to Tyrone and said his mother was dead.
“She really does have great intentions to get better and to be with the family, but she’s an addict and it’s quite sad really,” Claire continued.
“She wants to see Tyrone, she wants to get clean and she needs her mum, Evelyn. She’s a tough girl, she’s been around the block but she needs her mum and she turns up for help.”
Claire will initially feature in two episodes but will return as a regular cast member in August.
