Emmerdale fans blast ITV bosses for 'waste of time' episode amid Paddy storyline

Emmerdale viewers are blasting show bosses dubbing the latest episode a total “waste of time.”

As fans tuned into tonight’s episode (February 14) the airwaves were dominated by Chas and Mandy pondering the whereabouts of Paddy.

The first scenes showed the pair wondering where he was, before they were able to locate him at a nearby B&B.

After decided to go and get him, they were seen sat in the waiting area of the B&B idly chatting and waiting for Paddy to turn up.

Fans felt cheated by the episode, with some saying it was total “rubbish.”

“Sorry but “Where is Paddy?” just hasn’t got me as excited as the “Where’s Wills’ watch?” story line,” blasted one viewer.

“Huge waste of time that episode was,” another penned.

A third echoed: “Writers ought to be ashamed what a waste of an episode,” while a fourth agreed: “It was rubbish tonight. Bored to tears with Mandy Chas scenes. A waste of 25 minutes.”

Viewers have seen Paddy struggling with depression ever since he discovered his estranged wife Chas Dingle had an affair with the late Al Chapman.

After spending a night with former partner Mandy, Paddy disappeared from the village while Chas was on a day trip with Eve and father Bear was off meeting a woman.

Tonight’s episode saw the Dingle family grow increasingly alarmed about Paddy’s condition as they were finally able to locate him.

Soap bosses confirmed this week that scenes airing in March will involve Paddy having suicidal thoughts as he struggles silently with his mental health.

Producer Laura Shaw and the writing are collaborating with suicide prevention groups Samaritans and Andy’s Man Club on these episodes.

“As soon as we started discussing this story, we knew that it was vital for us to get it right and that we needed to open up the conversation about male depression and suicide,” Shaw has said.

“Paddy starts to feel increasingly lonely, isolated and overwhelmed by his feelings, and this leads to him having some very dark thoughts.

“We’ve worked really closely with Samaritans and Andy’s Man Club every step of the way through this story, and their incredible support and insight has helped us to shape Paddy’s journey into a true reflection of what thousands of men sadly go through every year.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
