She revealed: “I think most people are hit by cancer through family or friends by some description. I, on the other hand, had a cancer scare and I got the all clear yesterday, so I’m so happy.

“I was unfortunate in that I found a lump and it was the most scariest time for me.

“But the doctors were brilliant, they were like, ‘Let’s get you in, let’s get a mammogram, let’s get some ultrasounds and everything in place’.

“Obviously I’ve been one of the luckier people but sitting there talking to some of the women that are going through it and getting my results yesterday, it was tough.”

The soap star went on to encourage others to get regularly tested and to attend mammogram screenings and smear tests as she destigmatised the procedure.

She explained: “People say mammograms are scary and they hurt and they are uncomfortable and you hold your breath.

“I want to say a massive shout out to Amelia and Carmel at the breast screening clinic as well in Wigan, literally, they were amazing.”

Kel went on: “If anything, it’s just putting that big emphasis on it [cancer] and so if you get the letter to go and get a mammogram, if you find something and – I know it’s a scary thing – but getting in quick and getting it looked at is so important.

“That’s something that I did. Women are so scared to go in and do you know what, it’s 10 minutes and then you’re in and your out. Don’t be afraid.”
