'First Dates rejected me as blokes didn't want a 5'1 bald woman,' says Gail Porter

Gail Porter revealed she was rejected from First Dates after trying out for the show.

The TV presenter confessed she was looking forward to trying her luck on the Channel 4 show, but was not given the chance to star on the programme.

Gail said she became “paranoid” due to the reasons why she was knocked back and perhaps thought it could be because she wasn’t the suitors’ type.

Talking about the TV opportunity, Gail told Daily Star: “They asked me to do the Stand Up for Cancer special and then they went along and then said ‘No, we don’t want you.’

“I always get a little bit paranoid and thought maybe they asked the blokes and I’m sure not one of them said I’d love someone bald and 5ft1.

“Who knows, maybe I wasn’t right for who they were picking but I thought it would’ve been nice as it was a charity job.

“But yeah, I didn’t get it and I thought ‘Wow, I couldn’t even get that.'”

Gail also expressed how she isn’t “desperate” enough to pay for love – after setting up a profile on paid-for celebrity dating app Raya.

The host explained: “It was one of my girlfriends who said go on this Raya thing but I think I got it wrong as it’s for celebrities and I’m not really one of them.

“You had to write things about you and my friend was helping me and asked me what my fave TV show was, and I said ‘Meet, Marry, Murder’ and she said ‘That’s not going to go down well, Gail.’

“She then said ‘Anything else you can say about yourself?’ and I said ‘I get up at 3 o’clock in the morning.’

“We soon realised no one was going to look at me twice, and then got to the end and they said you had to pay.

“I said ‘Oh forget it, I’m not that desperate. I’m not paying to get laid. I’ll just get another cat. Or stick with hanging out in Soho and just dancing, I’m not bothered.’

“I’m 52 this week and I’m quite happy doing my own thing, I have lovely friends, a wonderful cat and my daughter is smashing it, so I don’t need a man.”

Gail spoke to us while promoting Virgin O2 Media’s new free data campaign, which she wished she could have had access to when she was homeless.

The star continued: “To have free data is an absolute lifeline for many people and I think ‘Wow, I wish I had that when I was homeless’. But I’m so glad it is happening now. I was sitting sometimes in Hampstead Heath on a bench and I just wanted to talk to someone and I couldn’t because I had no data.”

TV personality Gail Porter has partnered with Virgin Media O2 and Good Things Foundation to raise awareness of the National Databank – where the 1000 th Hub has opened, providing free O2 data to people in need.. It comes as a third of Brits say they are only one pay slip away from serious hardship. To find out more, visit https://www.o2.co.uk/national-databank.
