Home and Away's Paddy O'Connor shares Dean's horror as Ziggy goes missing after birth

Home and Away star Patrick O’Connor has opened up about how Dean feels when he realises Ziggy has gone missing.

The 30-year-old made his debut as River Boy Dean Thompson back in 2018 and has become a fan favourite on the Channel 5 soap.

In scenes set to air next week, Ziggy, played by Sophie Dillman, remains frustrated as her baby hasn’t connected with her.

Wanting to make things easier on his partner, Dean buys breast pumps so he can feed the baby at night while Ziggy catches up on sleep.

After Dean feeds their baby girl and falls asleep, he wakes up to discover Ziggy has disappeared.

As a desperate Dean begins searching and leaving Ziggy frantic voicemails, actor Paddy revealed Dean fears the worst in this moment.

“I think he does think the worst because he saw the way Ziggy was acting leading up to the disappearing and was worried it was becoming a bit too much,” he exclusively told Daily Star.

The Aussie actor continued: “I think he tried his best to tell her that this is what happens.

“It’s natural to feel overwhelmed because she’s just had a child, but for Ziggy to just disappear, especially as she normally just attacks things head on, he was really worried”.

After Justin arrives at work to discover Ziggy asleep in the back of car, she finally admits to Dean that she is struggling.

And after some words of wisdom from Irene, Ziggy appears to be a better place and names the baby, Isabella “Izzy” Astoni-Thompson.

Sharing the meaning behind the name, Sophie said: “Isabella is an Italian name and that links to Astoni. But also it’s a professional surfer’s name. So I think it was a really cool combination.”

The 29-year-old added: “But I think it was great that Ziggy got the opportunity to give the name and that was a moment of connection. It was a moment that her and Izzy got to share together and gave her a bit of strength.”

The actress revealed that before coming up with Isabella, the writers were using names that Paddy and Sophie had mentioned in their lives, including the name of Sophie’s best friend as well as Winnie – the name of their pet dog.
