Horror that had fans throwing up at trailer is finally released – and it’s even worse

Horror fans are in for a treat after the release of Eli Roth’s latest gorefest – but some with weaker stomachs were left throwing up at the mere trailer.

Thanksgiving was released in cinemas in the UK on Friday, November 17. Starring Patrick Dempsey, Suits icon Rick Hoffman, and TikTok sensation Addison Rae, the slasher flick takes the American holiday to a whole new level.

After a riot on Black Friday ends in tragedy, a killer inspired by Thanksgiving terrorises the town of Plymouth in Massachusetts, where the tradition was born. And the trailer itself promises some kills violent enough to turn the stomach.

From one woman being drowned and stuck to the side of a walk-in freezer – before pulling her own skin off in an attempt to escape – to grisly scenes of one teen being deafened with a thermometer, each weapon used by the killer is “straight off the Thanksgiving table”.

Viewers will see heads being chopped off, victims thrown through glass windows and one woman literally cooked to death in an oven. It’s left fans horrified.

Taking to social media, one cinema-goer who went to see The Exorcist said the Thanksgiving trailer was scarier than the film itself. They penned: “It wasn’t scary at all tbh – the scariest thing about it was the trailer for Thanksgiving that played at the start… that made me feel SICK… thinking about still makes me feel ill tbh.”

Someone else said: “Every slasher fan is going to love a movie with inventive kills and at least one good chase scene and this looks like it is going to deliver big time!” As a third fan agreed: “The idea of each kill being themed around its own Thanksgiving dinner appliance is honestly so creative.”

“This movie has the potential to be brutal, great job with the trailer! Made me physically cringe because this is probably the one I’m most afraid of,” another fan said.

Director Roth said he’s been waiting to make the movie since he was a child, gushing to GamesRadar+: “The truth is I’ve been wanting to do this since I was 12 years old.

“You know, [producer] Jeff Rendell is my best friend and we grew up together and we watched every single slasher movie together and we’d seen that every single holiday had been done, there were no holidays left, but we were in Massachusetts where Thanksgiving’s like the biggest deal. So our whole lives we wanted to make a Thanksgiving horror movie.”

The film started out as a fake trailer in the Grindhouse double feature, with fictional ads and trailers shown before each segment in the movies. Grindhouse also featured trailers for Don’t, by Edgar Wright, Werewolf Women of the SS by Rob Zombie and Hobo with a Shotgun.
