I’m A Celeb’s Paul Burrell accused of ‘overacting’ as he goes into meltdown on ITV show

Fans of I’m A Celeb: All Stars! were left questioning Paul Burrell’s authenticity as many thought he was “overacting” during the first episode.

The brand new spin-off show kicked off on Monday night, as former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! contestants made their way into the South African camp.

During the hit ITV show, former Royal butler Paul, Janice Dickinson and Shaun Ryder were tasked with taking part in the trial Hell Holes.

Placing their hands in unknown hollows, Paul joked: “How lovely for the first challenge to be putting my hand in a hole.”

But not long after, Paul put on a spectacular display as he started screeching and screaming “it’s going to bite me” once he realised a snake was in the hole.

However, fans at home were far from impressed with Paul’s reaction and headed over to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One viewer said: “Did Paul do an acting course before coming in? None of this seems genuine.”

Another penned: “Is Paul Burrell ‘acting’. The challenge can’t be that bad. All he has to do is put his hand into a hole.”

A third chimed: “Paul Burrell is so overacting this, we’ve seen this act before.”

While a fourth unimpressed fan echoed: “You know some of these are playing up even more now they’ve seen what people were saying about their last run, ie. Paul doing screaming like that with that snake so ott.”

Paul, who once worked as Princess Diana’s butler, became famously known for his dramatic reaction when he put his hand into a hollow chamber during his first I’m A Celeb stint in 2004.

The TV personality made it to the final of the fourth series and narrowly lost out on the top spot to comedian Joe Pasquale.

During his time on the ITV series, Paul took on four bushtucker trials including the memorable Hell Holes.

Sharing his thoughts on the trial before returning to take part in the current series, he said: “If I have to do the Hell Holes trial again, then I know I am going to be really scared.

“It’s such a weird thing to do wondering if whatever is in there is going to bite you or not. I will never get over the fear of the unknown.”
