ITV Corrie’s Bethany Platt ‘forced’ to return to famous cobbles after five-year break

Coronation Street’s favourite Bethany Platt was “forced” to return to the ITV cobbles after her five-year absence.

Loyal fans of the long-running soap will remember when the blonde bombshell, played by Lucy Fallon, won over the hearts of the nation when she arrived in Weatherfield in 2015. During her time on the cobbles, the actress tackled several emotional storylines including high school bullying and grooming in young girls.

In the last few years on the show, her character was pimped out by gang member Nathan Curtis and coerced into sex with random men before she found the courage to report them to the police. She also famously dated Craig Tinker and Daniel Osbourne before she left the street to work for a glossy magazine company in London.

Now, in an interview with Daily Star and other press, the soap star, 28, has teased that her character’s return to the show isn’t all smiles and rainbows. She told us: “She is basically being forced to come back.

“There is something that’s happened in London that has kind of forced her to come back but she’s not revealing that straight away. She’s being a bit secretive about why she has come back.”

The doting mum explained how her character has changed during her time away from Weatherfield. She revealed: “I’d say she’s quite career focused.

“She’s very driven in her career, very desperate to pursue this journalism career that she started in London. I think she’s grown up quite a lot.

“I feel like the last time we saw her she probably felt a bit more like a young girl whereas I think now she seems more like a woman. I think she’s grown up a lot, but she has the same morals as before.”

It’s fair to say the actress is just as pleased to be returning to the famous cobbles as her character is after so many years. When the mum-of-one was asked if she ever thought she would return to the soap, she confessed that it was never a question in her mind.

Lucy revealed: “I think I said from the beginning when I was asked that question, I said ‘Never say never’. I wasn’t leaving with the intention that I would never go back.

“I always said to my family, ‘Oh when I go back in five years’ time or whatever…’ That was always the conversation. So, I did always see that [happening] anyway.

“And I think having a baby, it’s nice to be able to come home to him and have a job as well. So yeah, I feel like it was just the right time for me.”

It’s fair to say the feisty Platt will definitely be coming back to the ITV soap with a bang. The doting mum hinted that her character is set to cause “unintentional trouble” between Daisy Midgeley and Daniel following their emotional split.

The budding journalist almost got engaged to Daniel before she moved to London. Now that Daniel is a single man, the possibilities of the two former flames running into each other is extremely high.

She warned viewers: “I imagine when they [Daniel and Bethany] bump into each other again, and they’re both in new situations in different parts of their lives that it will spark that connection again.

“I think she could cause some unintentional trouble because she’s obviously not been aware of what’s been going on.” Fans will have to stay tuned to see if Bethany and Daniel will rekindle their romance on the cobbles in the new year.
