ITV rope in stand-in host for NTAs as Joel Dommett admits he might not make it

Joel Dommett has admitted he may not be able to host this year’s National Television Awards.

The NTAs, traditionally held in the O2 Arena in London, have been a mainstay for Dommett after he took on the gig in 2021.

But this year, ITV are being forced to have a replacement on standby, as Joel, 38, could miss the star-studded event.

The Masked Singer presenter is set to become a dad for the first time, with wife Hannah Cooper due to give birth in the next few days.

This could get in the way of him hosting the NTAs, which are set to take place on September 5.

Joel is still set to host the show, with Hannah having a seat reserved for her.

But should she go into labour before or during the show, ITV bosses have already lined up someone to take the reins.

Speaking to The Sun, Joel said: “My wife is very pregnant…but there is a seat for Hannah at the O2 and we’ll just hope she is still there at the end of the evening. We’ll almost certainly take our hospital bag along, just in case.

“There is a contingency. They won’t tell me who the contingency is but the best thing is everybody is there – every presenter is going”.

Dommett added that his ideal plan would be to give each category to a different host, mentioning household names such as Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern.

The presenter also added that becoming a dad will require some sacrifices, but he refuses to give up his six-pack.

Joel first hit screens as a comedian on panel shows such as ITV’s Reality Bites and Sky’s Bring the Noise.

But it was on I’m A Celebrity that the hunk shot to fame with his ripped bod.

And Joel does not seem to be giving up his workout routine for his new baby, joking: “I understand that I might have to sacrifice some of my 1,000 abs. I might have to come down to potentially two three hundred.”

He added that sleepless nights will be a challenge for him and being able to divide his free time between the gym and sleep will be particularly tough.

“I basically have tried to set it up so that if I have a spare half-hour, I’m going to get [my workout] done,” he said.

Joel and wife Hannah have been together after Hannah slid into Joel’s messages on Instagram after his jungle stint.

The pair have been loved-up ever since, and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on the Greek island of Mykonos in 2019.
