Love Island hunk Tom Clare is said to have been in a long-term relationship just weeks before he jetted to South Africa ahead of the Winter series.
The South Yorkshire-born soon-to-be star has left close friends completely stunned after his shock decision to apply on the show despite being in a committed relationship.
Tom, 23, is reported to have been in a relationship with flight attendant Emily Mott for over three years before deciding to call it a day towards the end of last year.

However, just months ago, Tom who plays for Macclesfield FC declared on his social media that he and Emily would be an item “forever”.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “Everyone was really shocked to see Tom pop up as a bombshell.
“As far as most people knew he was really loved up with Emily, they were always together and enjoyed exotic holidays together.”
In just a matter of days, the semi-professional footballer who boats almost 14,000 followers on Instagram will go head to head with fellow potential bombshell Ellie Spencer – with the public voting for who they want to enter the villa.
Ahead of his debut on ITVBe, Tom said he wanted to “meet someone” before adding: “It’s good going out and having a laugh but I miss sharing stuff, life’s too short, and these opportunities don’t come around often.”
Reflecting on why he’s single just weeks after his relationship ended, Tom explained: “I’m single because I fall in love really quick, but I fall out of it just as quickly.
“I could literally fall in love with a chair and then a week later be like, ‘Oh wait, no, that’s a chair…’
“I fall in love quickly because I build up a character of someone in my head and then they breathe in the wrong direction and I’m like, ‘Next!'”
But Tom claims that since splitting with blonde beauty Emily, nobody has made him think “wow”, adding: “Until I have that, I’m not really going to settle for less, not in a bad way, but the next person I get with, I want to marry.”
However, he appeared to drop a hint at his romance with Emily following a recent trip to Dubai where one of his relatives lives, explaining that his “best date”, was sitting on Dubai marina having “amazing drinks”.
Daily Star has reached out to Tom’s ex-girlfriend for comment.
