Madonna says she's 'struggling to understand how to be a mother' while doing her job

US hitmaker Madonna has admitted that she is “struggling to understand how to be a mother” while opening up about parenting and juggling it with her job in a candid interview.

The 64-year-old pop icon, who has just announced a huge 40th anniversary tour, has now revealed that motherhood is “the most difficult battle” for her.

Mum to Lourdes, 26, Rocco, 22, David, 17, Mercy, 16, and twins Estere and Stella, 10, the Like A Prayer singer has said that it must be difficult for her kids to grow up “with a mother like me”.

Her admissions come from her cover story with Vanity Fair, where she confessed: “Today, I am still struggling to understand how to be a mother and do my job.

“Because, whoever you are, having children and raising them is a work of art.

“And no one gives you a manual. You have to learn from mistakes.”

She went on: “It is a profession that requires a lot of time. And it is exhausting because there is never rest.”

The interview was a part of Vanity Fair’s first-ever icon issue.

On the cover of the glossy magazine, Madonna can be seen transformed into the Virgin Mary.

Within the pages, she can also be seen recreating scenes from The Last Supper.

Her admissions on juggling her “profession” of motherhood come days after she announced her hotly-anticipated Celebration world tour.

The tour, which will focus on her greatest hits, will be Madonna’s 12th concert tour.

The last time she toured was in 2019 and 2020, when she performed in small venues to support of her album Madame X.

Celebration will mark the biggest arena tour she that the Material Girl songstress has ever been on, with the hitmaker set to visit 35 cities.

Starting the tour in Canada in July, Madonna will tour across North America before heading to Europe, where she will perform in 11 cities including London at the O2 Arena in October.

Ahead of her announcement, Madonna completely wiped her Instagram page of all photos, video and content.

She then posted a promotional graphic for the tour before uploading a video about it, and then another graphic.

In the caption of the graphic she said: “Come join the party!”

Tickets for Madonna’s Celebration Tour will go on sale this Friday (January 20).
