Paris Hilton was so “scared” she didn’t change her son Phoenix’s nappy for a month after his arrival.
The reality star, 41, welcomed her baby boy via surrogate in January 2023, naming him Phoenix Barron. In a surprise announcement this November, she also welcomed a baby girl, London, also by surrogate. She shares both children biologically with her husband Carter Reum.
Paris kept her pregnancies on the down-low, only telling her mom and sister about London’s impending arrival. She explained on her show Paris In Love: “My parents did not know when it was happening; they just knew it was going to happen. So it was the best Thanksgiving surprise ever for everybody.”

But for Paris, easing into motherhood wasn’t easy. In the third episode of season two of her reality show, she asked her sister: “Should I learn how to change his diaper?”
She then told her son, who was around a month old at the time: “I said I wouldn’t do this on my birthday, but I will for you. Anything for Phoenix.” But she then admitted to being “scared” as Nicky asked: “You’ve never done it?”
Paris responded no, while her sister showed her how to change a nappy and locate the “front and back”, along with making sure it isn’t too tight. Previously it had been left up to Paris’ nanny to take care of the little things, but Nicky admitted in a confessional: “Motherhood, you’ve got to get your hands a little bit dirty.”
Paris also opened up about choosing surrogacy on the show, admitting it was a “difficult decision to make”. She said: “I would have loved that experience of growing the baby in your tummy and feeling the kicks and all of those exciting moments, but my life has just been so public. So even though the baby is biologically mine and Carter’s, we decided to have a surrogate carry him.”
Carter admitted: “”Now having a family with Paris, we want our family to grow up and be normal and not always be known as Paris Hilton’s children. We have to think about safety.
“When we go to the farmer’s market, it’s one thing if someone stops and asks Paris for a photo. It’s a whole other thing with the baby in tow in a stroller.”
Motherhood hasn’t been straightforward for Paris, either. She’s been forced to hit back at trolls who mocked the size of her baby son’s forehead online, as the socialite said: “There are some sick people in this world. My angel is perfectly healthy. And yes, of course he has been to a doctor, he just has a large brain.”

She added: “Living life in the spotlight, comments are inevitable but targeting my child, or anyone else’s for that matter, is unacceptable. This hurts my heart more deeply than words can describe. My baby is perfectly healthy, adorable and angelic. Phoenix is my world and has been the biggest blessing of my life.
“It’s hard to fathom that there are people in the world who would target such innocence. I hope that people can treat one another with more kindness and empathy.”
