Holly then chipped in: “You know what, we’ll still get blamed for it,” as Phillip agreed: “Of course we will but we could not have given you a bigger warning,” as he instructed viewers to turn down their volume at the right moment to avoid the spoilers.

Phillip confirmed they wouldn’t be using a clip from the finale on the screen, so all fans of the show had to go was mute their TV screens or leave the room.

As the show shared a teaser of the last episode, Holly and Phil were then seen on the sofa as they were joined by two experts to talk about the showdown between Catherine Cawood and Tommy Lee Royce.

A small banner was then seen on the bottom of the screen as the pair made sure to highlight it to fans to ensure no one missed the warning.

Viewers of the show seemed to be grateful for the move, as one person said: “The lower third on This Morning actually says “Turn Volume Down” when they’re talking about Happy Valley spoilers. Although this is hilarious, it’s also kindly thoughtful – and respectful – towards those who haven’t seen the finale. Nice one, guys.”

Another added: “Nice one, wasn’t expecting a Dexter and a Line Of Duty spoiler. I’ve not seen the final seasons on either.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
