Phillip Schofield still up for Best Presenter at NTAs despite ITV exit and affair

Philip Schofield remains a nominee of Best Presenter at the National Television Awards despite his recent ITV scandals.

The blunder was pointed out by comedian Mark Grimshaw via his Twitter account @MarkGComedyUK, drawing attention to voting still remaining open for Schofield.

The Manchester-based stand-up wrote: “Just throwing it out there that voting is currently open on the National TV Awards, and Phillip Schofield is still nominated for Best Presenter, if anyone wants to help the funniest possible outcome happen in September.”

Phillip suffered a particularly public fall from grace this week, after his sudden departure from This Morning after his brother was convicted for child sex offences.

The 61-year-old then faced media backlash when it was revealed that he had an affair with a young ITV employee whilst still married to his wife of 30 years, Stephanie Lowe.

In a statement shared with the Daily Mail, Phillip described the relationship as “unwise, but not illegal”, before quitting ITV entirely.

Mark Grimshaw’s tweet has gained more than 226,000 views so far, with many making cheeky responses via quote tweet.

One commenter jibed: “Stranger things have happened (Ant & Dec winning in the year where Ant spent most of it off-air after causing a three-car drink driving crash that could have killed his mum, dog and a child)”.

Some users offered their support, with one writing: “This would be so good if he won.”

Another penned a tongue-in-cheek response, encouraging “chaos”: “On the one hand, I don’t want to vote for him. On the other hand, I am a huge fan of chaos reigning supreme.”

The category of Best Presenter has 49 other nominees, with those nominated including RuPaul, Joe Lycett, and Alison Hammond.

The NTAs are being hosted this year by presenter Joel Dommett.

Joel is also tipped as the favourite to host the British Soap Awards, after Philip Schofield stepped down as host just eight days before the ceremony.

Partners of the NTAs include ITV, Radio Times, and The Sun.

The NTAs are touted on their own website as “Television’s biggest night of the year”, and are to be broadcast live from London’s The O2 on September 5.
