‘Red Velvet are true stars among their K-Pop peers with dazzling R to V concert’

Red Velvet returned to London for their highly-anticipated solo concert R to V after their debut in the UK at last year’s K-Pop music MIK Festival.

While the group, from entertainment company SM, seriously impressed at the Southwark Park-based festival last year, fans at London’s OVO Wembley Arena were really in for a show on Tuesday night (June 6).

From start to finish, the group left fans mesmerised with their beautiful and strong live vocals, many wardrobe changes and elegant choreography.

The members – Wendy, Seulgi, Irene and Yeri – quickly acknowledged that fifth member Joy was unable to be there, however her presence was felt throughout.

Joy, who is back home due to sickness, appeared on the large monitors during her lines, with clips of her seamlessly appearing among the live shots of the other members performing.

While the crowd really showed Joy love in her absence, they didn’t fall short when it came to the other members, with fans especially making noise for youngest member Yeri, who appeared to lap up the adoration.

Often at K-Pop shows, interaction with the crowd can feel forced – naturally, because the language barrier can get in the way.

However the Red Velvet members took time to really speak to their fans, with Wendy even joking that the on-stage prompters were telling her she was talking too much.

Of course, while the fans – known as ReveLuvs – took in all of the interactions, it was the music they were there for, and that really did not disappoint.

Red Velvet have a huge back catalogue, and they performed a great mix of their title tracks as well as B-sides.

The concert was split into “R” and “V” sets, showing their “Red” – cute, soft, romantic side; and “Velvet” – powerful, “girl-crush” and chic concepts.

They performed some of their biggest hits, like crowd-pleaser Red Flavor, the beautiful Feel My Rhythm, uptempo Peek-A-Boo and earlier track Ice Cream Cake.

The group performed the English version of their track Bad Boy, thanking fans for singing along afterwards, too.

Mixed into the set list were B-sides such as Pose, Zoom, Oh Boy and In & Out, which really allowed the members to prove their vocal ability.

After the “final” track, Psycho, the members said their goodbyes – but also made it clear there was still plenty to come.

The ladies returned to the stage for two encores, with the finale including Russian Roulette, Zimzalabim and You Better Know.

And while energy had been high throughout, the audience was really ready for a party with Zimzalabim.

Chaotic in a fun way, the song got everybody out of their seats to dance, while the Red Velvet members jumped around on stage.

Naturally, the crowd was full of their hardcore fans, but a Red Velvet show should be experienced by everyone.

Whether or not you’re into K-Pop, or are just a fan of music, a Red Velvet show truly is an experience like no other, so take the chance – or ticket – if you get it!
