Now, it has been announced that future seasons of the already unpopular HBO show are being cancelled.
The series received some of the worst reviews of 2023 when it was first aired on 8 June this year.
Studio HBO have officially announced the cancellation and a spokesperson addressed the show.
They said that The Idol was one of the studio’s “most provocative original programmes” and they had been “pleased by the strong audience response”.
Despite this, HBO said the company, creators and show producers all agreed “not to proceed” with any further seasons.
They also thanked their staff for their “incredible work”.
Some viewers definitely saw this news coming after the series was cut from six episodes down to five.
To top it, many HBO viewers were seriously unimpressed with the show and some of the more harsh comments branded it “the worst programme ever made”.
It currently holds a 19% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and even while the show was being aired, fans were begging for it to be axed.
The Idol’s graphic sex scenes were frequently compared to p*rnography and some were left deeply disturbed.
In one of the episodes, Jocelyn could be seen pleasuring herself with a red scarf tied round her head as Tedros attempts to dirty talk to her.
His explicit language left viewers red faced as other moments were compared to “torture p*rn” and “the worst sex scenes ever”.
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts: “The Idol is truly a disgusting show, there’s nothing of substance in it I’m pretty sure, lol.”
Another branded it “weird p*rn with an aesthetic filter over it” as others simply wrote: “They should cancel The Idol.”
