Westlife's Brian McFadden isn't pals with old bandmates who 'live in different world'

The former Westlife star Brian McFadden has revealed he isn’t pals with his old bandmates.

Brian, 42, said people are shocked when he says he went for years without seeing the rest of the group.

The singer had a string of hits with Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, Kian Egan, and Nicky Byrne, before he quit the boy band in 2004.

The singer said: “I think people overthink things. We were together for six years in a band and you have to understand that it was a job.

“The other guys all grew up together in Sligo, and Shane, Nicky and Mark all went to school together since they were 10 or 11 years old.

“They’ve been friends their whole life. So it was more of a job and we became best friends doing it.”

But Brian said he didn’t keep in touch with the lads, and had not seen them for years when he ran into them at a football match last year.

He said: “It had been six or seven years. But I bumped into Shane and Nicky and their kids at Old Trafford.

“We were in the director’s box together last year because I go to watch Manchester United all the time.

“But it’s the same as, you know, you have friends in college. A lot of them you probably won’t see after you leave college, so it’s just because our lives took different directions.

“My life was in Australia and America. So I had a very short time in the UK. It is not a conscious decision of ‘we don’t talk to each other’. It’s more of a ‘we have moved on with our lives’.

“There’s no bad blood, but this is just the world we live in. We live in different worlds.”

Home life is also keeping him busy. The dad of three is hoping for a second child with fiancee Danielle Parkinson, with whom he has a daughter, Ruby.

But Brian claimed boybands and pop music were “done”.

He said: “There are no upcoming pop groups. And there are not going to be any upcoming pop groups. They are done now.”
