Alf star Benji Gregory found dead in car aged 46 as fans say death is ‘crushing’

Child star of ‘Alf’, Benji Gregory, has been found dead in his car aged 46. His passing has been described by fans as ‘crushing’.

The actor’s sister, Rebecca, shared that her brother was found in a parking lot in Peoria, Arizona almost a month ago on June 13. TMZ report that the vehicle was in a Chase Bank parking lot.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office has reported that the cause of death is still pending, but the death certificate does confirm the June 13 date. Rebecca revealed that her brother suffered from depression, bipolar disorder and had a sleep disorder that often kept him awake for days.

Although the exact cause of death is still pending, those close to him believe that he went to the bank to deposit residual checks on June 12. But that he fell asleep and died from vehicular heatstroke due to Arizona’s intense summer heat.

According to Intrepid Travel, June can see average high temperatures of 106F – around 41C. With lows of 73F, or 23C.

Tragically, Benji’s service dog, Hans, also died in the car. Fans have come out on X to share their respects to the actor and former serviceman.

One person, Harriet, wrote: “Omg! That is crushing. So young.. why.”

Another said: “Tragic :(“

Chuck added: “Terrible condolences to his family and friends.”

Benji’s family has said that they are “grieving a great loss” and “appreciates everyone’s thoughts and kind words”. They have also suggested that donations in Benji’s name would be appreciated to either The Actors Equity Foundation or the ASPCA.

The former actor shot to fame playing ‘Brian Tanner’ on Alf, in which he starred in 101 episodes, airing between 1986 and 1990. He continued acting, but he never really shot to super stardom and left the entertainment industry in 2003 to enlist in the US Navy.

Benji’s family has said that they are “grieving a great loss” and “appreciates everyone’s thoughts and kind words”.

He went on to graduate as an aerographer’s mate. In 2005, he was given an honourable medical discharge.
