The Traitors is back and fans were all left saying the same thing minutes into the new series.
Claudia Winkleman returned as host along with a fresh group of 22 contestants from a variety of backgrounds. The first episode, which aired on Wednesday (January 3) kicked off by the presenter writing a letter to the contenders with the help of an owl.
She was seen speaking to the animal in the sketch and viewers at home rushed to their keyboards to discuss the opening of the second season. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: “#TheTraitors I’m already on panic mode and it’s not even started.”

Another added: “IT IS STARTING!!! CLAUDIA IS TALKING TO AN OWL! LET’S GOOOOOO #TheTraitors.” A third person wrote: “The owl has taken over Claudia’s fringe as the star of the show #TheTraitors.” Paul, Harry and Ash were later chosen by Claudia to become the Traitors and their mission is to murder the 19 Faithfuls one by one without being caught.
Thrilled to be back at the helm following the first series’ success, Claudia previously expressed her excitement when talking about the show’s reception, saying: “We are still dazzled and shocked by the way people embraced it. The moment I thought ‘what is happening?’ is when Kathy Burke, one of my heroes, posted about it. And I thought ‘I must be asleep’.”
“What’s interesting about this show is that you are on both sides equally. I want the traitors to win. And I just want the faithful to find the traitors and take them down and get that money. It is odd being on both sides.”Speaking on why she found the show intriguing, she added: “I think it’s because it’s an addictive, meaty game. All our lives, we’ve been told to trust our gut.
“This game throws all of that in the shredder, because you might be having an absolute laugh with somebody who is going to murder you that night.” Claudia also revealed this year’s contestants have upped their game: “The players are more ruthless, they are less innocent, and they have no qualms about accusing people. In the first season, Maddy [Smedley, a faithful] would say ‘I think it’s him’… and everyone went ‘shhh, you’re wrong’.

“And I was just like, ‘listen to her!’ But here [in series two], you see the first round table, it explodes. They want to play the game and they are, impatient is not the right word, but they’re more brutal.” We are sure to see the Traitors return with a vengeance this time around.
The Traitors airs Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm
