A former Coronation Street star and X Factor winner has reportedly signed for Strictly.
It’s said singer Shayne Ward is going to be part of the line-up for the under-fire BBC show, which is currently dogged in a complaints scandal. It certainly wouldn’t be his first time performing for judges as he starred on the 2013 series of ITV’s Dancing on Ice as well as X Factor, which he won in 2005.
It’s claimed he could be a “contender” for the glitterball trophy given his previous dancing experience. A source told The Sun: “Shayne is a previous winner of an audience-voted talent show so will have high hopes of doing it again.

“He is excited to begin training. He has some dancing experience so could be a contender for the glitterball trophy. He also has a whopping fan base from his years as a Coronation Street hunk.”
Other celebs rumoured to be part of the Strictly line-up is DIY SOS star Nick Knowles and football legend 56-year-old Paul Merson. The celeb cast is yet to be confirmed by the BBC.
Shayne is starring in Channel 5 crime drama The Good Ship Murder with Catherine Tyldesley, a former Corrie co-star. He previously appeared Corrie’s Underworld factory boss Aidan Connor from 2015 until 2018.
Aidan left during a heartbreaking suicide storyline which saw him take his own life. He revealed he sought counselling after learning of his Corrie exit, which left him in a “really dark place”.
He told The Sun: “I knew when I took it on that it was more than just a storyline. This is affecting millions of people around the world every single day, and when I read the stats I couldn’t believe it.
“So when I’m getting into that place, it’s a really, really dark place which again breaks my heart. You feel that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You feel lost, you feel hopeless, powerless, unloved and you feel like you can never make things right.”
Strictly has been engulfed in drama of late following allegations of misconduct against the show’s professional dancers. An internal probe has been launched to investigate the claims.
Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington claimed her former dance partner Giovanni was “bullying and aggressive” towards her in rehearsals. Pernice on the other hand has denied claims of “threatening and abusive behaviour”.
