Coronation Street favourite Tony Maudsley has shared some big news about his future on the ITV soap.
The actor, 56, made his cobbles debut in 2020 playing George Shuttleworth. As the son of the late son of Archie Shuttleworth, George has become a firm favourite with viewers.
Since rocking up, fans have seen him struck up a romance with soap alum Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver). Undertaker George’s sister Glenda (Jodie Prenger) has also made the famous street her home and joined in 2022.

And fans hoping to see George remain on the cobbles will be over the moon to hear actor Tony’s announcement. Taking to his X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday (March 15) he issued an announcement.
Tony penned: “WooHooo!!! That’s me (and George) staying on at @itvcorrie till at least July 2025 and I couldn’t be happier. As they say…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
Fans couldn’t contain their excitement at George’s news. In the reply section, one person said: “Great news. We all love you Tony.” Someone else added: “Congratulations. Corrie wouldn’t be the same without George x”.
A third gushed: “hooray! more stories for George & Eileen please!.” Another follower penned: “Great news, Corrie wouldn’t be the same without you.”
It comes after Tony looked worlds away from the Cobbles in his unearthed stint on Britain’s Got Talent. The star left fans with mouths open with a jaw-dropping picture from the past.
In the snap, Tony shares the stage with his former Benidorm co-stars as they attempt to impress head judge Simon Cowell. Tony looked nothing like his alter-ago George in the snap from 12 years ago, taken during Britain’s Got Talent’s Sport Relief sketch in 2012.
The soap star boasted an incredible bronze tan and bleach-blonde hair. His followers were given a real hit of nostalgia as they struggled to come to terms with the fact that the BGT stint had been on screens over a decade ago. One person begged: “Do another tour please!”
