Corrie’s ‘best female villain to return’ 20 years on to ‘finish the job’ as fans spot ‘clue’

Coronation Street fans are certain a return is on the cards for soap icon Maya Sharma.

The character, played by Sasha Behar, first made her soap debut back in 2003. Maya rocked up as the lover of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).

And things got very serious, very quickly as Maya’s jealousy and paranoia unfolded on screen. But when Dev started growing close to his ex-wife and baby mama Sunita (Shobna Gulati) it all kicked off.

Especially when Dev eventually dumped Maya to fall back into his former lover Sunita’s arms. Fuming, Maya did not stop at anything to get her revenge.

In one of the soap’s most iconic scenes, in 2004, Maya tied Dev and Sunita up in the flat above their shop. In a bid to kill the pair, she then created a gas explosion. However, her plan was foiled as she tried to make her escape.

The villain’s time on the cobbles came to an end when her plan to murder the husband and wife was foiled as the twisted Weatherfield resident tried to make her escape.

She ended up getting her revenge on Dev

In shocking scenes, a lorry crashed into her van as she attempted to get away from the scene. Luckily, Dev and Sunita survived – with Maya then rushed to hospital in intensive care.

Following some time in hospital, it was later revealed that Maya had been sent to jail to await trial. But since then, Maya’s not been mentioned at all.

However, 20 years on and fans reckon a comeback for Maya could be on the cards after pointing out how she would likely be out of prison by now. Over on X, one person said: “Bring back Maya Sharma please @itvcorrie we beg.”

Someone else mused: “I can’t remember did she get killed off or is she still in Weatherfield prison?” to which a third pointed out: “She would most likely be out of prison by now…”

Another fan chimed in and proclaimed: “It seems such an obvious thing to do. In a good way. Heaps of potential.” A fifth agreed: “Yes! The best female villain Corrie’s ever had. We need her back to finish the job.”

Someone else penned: “2024 needs to be the year of the Maya, mad or otherwise. It would be so easy to bring her back. Plus there are lots of new Corrie venues she can blow up.”
