Danny Dyer’s marriage with wife – from accidental proposal to cheating scandals

Danny Dyer is one of the most well-known faces on British TV and everybody’s favourite hard-man.

Having starred in the likes of EastEnders, The Football Factory and Hooligan Factory, Dyer is well known for ability to play a geezer who does what it takes to get the job done. However, away from the cameras, Danny is real big softie and has been hitched to wife Joanne for decades.

The pair met when they were children and have stuck by each other through thick and thin. Now, the couple are proud parents and grandparents as they continue to show their commitment to each other.

So, as the pair continue to celebrate another year of wedded bliss, Daily Star looks at Danny Dyer’s love life with his wife Joanne. And it’s not all been plain-sailing.

Accidental proposal

Danny has been off the market for much of his life, as he fell in love with his darling wife Joanne when they were teenagers. Aged just 14 when they met, the couple were instantly attracted to each other and decided to make things official.

After leaving school, the couple set out into the world as a pair – although Joanne was the one who wore the trousers at the beginning of the relationship. Joanne was also the main breadwinner before Danny hit it big time with his acting work, as she worked as a financial adviser.

Being a woman who gets what she wants, Joanne was the one to pop the question to Danny in 2015, with the couple officially tying the know one year after in an intimate ceremony. However, the pair now seemed to have gotten married by accident as neither had been willing to get down on one knee.

Speaking on a James and Clair Buckley’s In Sickness and In Health podcast, Joanne admitted that she had been to a cookie shop and bought the last muffin which had the words ‘will you marry me?’ written on top. However, at the time she did not mean it, Danny discovered the muffin and exclaimed, “Yes, yes, yes!”; after making the admission, Danny lamented: “We got married by accident – what a romantic story.”

Growing a family

Joanne, 47, and Danny, 46, have welcomed three beautiful children into the world. Of their three kids, they are also grandparents to three young sprogs, thanks to their childrens’ relationships.

Their oldest daughter Dani is already well-known to the public and is the apple of her father’s eye. Dani shot to fame when she appeared in and won the 2018 edition of Love Island, as well as a short stint on fellow reality show Survival of the Fittest.

As well as this, Danny and Joanne have two other children – another daughter called Sunnie, and a son named Arty. But they’ve left the limelight with Dani – who has brought Danny and Joe’s grandchildren into the world.

And Danny is head over heels for Joanne. Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2018, he admitted: “I don’t know what took me so long [to get married].

“It’s crazy, [We’ve been together] thirty years. I appreciate it now, I get it…. she is incredible my wife.”

Affairs and allegations

In 2012, Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding reportedly had an affair with Danny, after having met on the set of the film Run For Your Wife. Danny played the lead character who has two wives that do not know about the other.

Harding insisted at the time that she believed Danny was single and he had seduced her, but had been left heartbroken when she learned the truth. The allegations of the affair surfaced in 2017, and Danny was forced to move out of the family home – before they eventually patched things up later that year.

However, this was not the first time that Danny had cheated as previous allegations surfaced in 2000 of his infidelity. Joanne gave him a similar treatment and forced him out of the house until he won her trust back.

Danny later explained that he did not blame his wife for “clearing the bank account” the pair shared in the wake of the allegations. He was also not allowed to see his children until she decided he was worthy to come back into their lives.

He told The Times: “It was a mad period. I do now realise what’s important to me are my family. They are everything.”
