Director of freaky Netflix horror admits ‘dog died on set’ and cast hospitalised

A dog died on The Deliverance’s set while others were hospitalised during filming.

Lee Daniels, the mastermind behind the new Netflix horror, confessed that there were so many freaky goings-on while filming that he would organise prayer circles. He spoke to Sirius XM about the incident and confessed to some disturbingly strange events that happened while the cast were filming.

“My sister is in every move that I’ve ever done as my good luck charm and she was in the [chemotherapy] scene […] two days later, after being in the chemo scene, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Literally. My dog died on the set.”

The Deliverance is based on a horrifying true story

Despite this heart-breaking news, this wasn’t the end – Mo’Nique, who played a social worker, was reportedly hospitalised during the filming process. The comedian also discussed her health problems: “We’re outside. It was just, the demon was supposed to be on top of the building, so they kept blowing this…”

“I mean, at one point I’m like: ‘Lee, do we have [to have] this s***? Because I can’t breathe,’ so when I got finished, my thyroid was a big…I mean, it was just sick. Oh baby. I was like: ‘What kind of s*** is this?’ It was a lot of things happening with The Deliverance.”

The director was so freaked out that he took steps to try and ward off evil, including his prayer circle technique. Daniels admitted: “Things happen and I was not gonna let things happen on my set, and also I needed it for me. Even with that, there were still things that happened on set […]”

The Deliverance is available to watch on the platform

The Deliverance is a supernatural horror thriller that was released on Netflix on 30 August. The film stars Andra Day, Rob Morgan, Caleb McLaughlin, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Tasha Smith, Omar Epps, Mo’Nique and Glenn Close.

Netflix’s description reads: “A woman moves her family to a new home for a fresh start – but something evil already lives there. A Lee Daniels film inspired by terrifying true events.”
