EastEnders legend Natalie Cassidy has dropped some secrets about her experiences behind-the-scenes on the latest instalment of her podcast, ‘Life with Nat’. Chatting with her other half Marc Humphreys in episode 26, cheekily dubbed ‘Scraping the barrel’, she dished the dirt on her bond with the crew of the iconic British soap.
While chatting about that bond, she revealed her nosiness about the ins and outs of telly production, admitting that her curiosity sometimes rubs people up the wrong way.
Natalie didn’t hold back in singing the praises of the oft-overlooked sound department, commending them for their hard graft amidst the chaos of shooting scenes.
She confessed: “I’m always nice to the crew, you know I am… On a serious note, the crew are more my friends than anyone else.”
Her fascination with the nuts and bolts of showbiz is no secret, especially after clocking up three decades on the Square. She said: “I’m very interested in every part of it and how it goes together. I think also once you’ve worked somewhere for 30 years, give and take.”, reports the Mirror.
The soap star admitted to keeping herself busy, which isn’t always a hit with everyone, as she tends to meddle in jobs that aren’t hers. She explained: “I just like to keep myself occupied which also is not always a good thing because you’re actually getting involved in someone else’s job quite a lot of the time. I’m very nosey and I do get involved in things I probably shouldn’t.”
Cassidy made it clear that while she might be a bit too involved, she respects boundaries, saying: “You should really let people get on with their own jobs. No one steps in and does my lines…I’ve got a keen interest in every department…a very keen interest in directors.”
Natalie remarked: “I’m going to be told off, now, by someone. It’s the one that always gets forgotten about in my eyes, the sound department.
“I just feel that lighting has their time, cameras have their time and the boom guys, the ops, just get on with it. I never hear them moaning…they just get on with it don’t they?”.
In a heart-to-heart with her partner Marc, who works as a TV cameraman, Natalie mused over the perks of their profession, expressing gratitude for not being stuck in a typical office job.
She said: “I love chatting about work and I do love filming different sets, different things, I feel like we’re very very lucky in our careers. I can’t imagine going to the same office every day and seeing the same people…I just can’t imagine doing that.”
