EastEnders’ Angela Wynter has left fans gobsmacked after revealing her ‘true’ accent.
The 66 year old actress is best known for her role as Yolande Trueman, a character who first graced the BBC One soap nearly two decades ago.
As the cheerful and optimistic owner of a B&B and ex-wife of Minute Mart owner Patrick Trueman (played by Rudolph Walker), Yolande quickly became a fan favourite. However, in 2008, she bid farewell to the show and moved to Birmingham.
Fast forward 15 years, and Angela returned to the iconic square last year to reprise her role as Yolande, reigniting her romance with Patrick. Yolande’s storyline took a dark turn when she was assaulted by Pastor Clayton (portrayed by Howard Saddler), reports the Mirror.
Beyond EastEnders, Angela has showcased her acting chops in a variety of shows and films, including Call The Midwife and Death In Paradise.
She also had a part in the popular Christmas film Last Christmas, penned by Emma Thompson, who also starred in it. And in 2022, she landed a role on another well-known soap: Doctors, set in Birmingham.
However, a recent video of Angela has left fans in shock. In a clip shared on X, Angela was seen at an awards event discussing her time on the soap. But what really surprised fans was hearing her real accent for the first time.
Over on X, one viewer was totally captivated, writing: “Obsessed with her real voice. She sounds so young compared to Yolande.” Another fan was shook, saying: “I was today years old when I found out that the actress doesn’t have an accent like Yolande.”
A third chimed in, absolutely flabbergasted: “I can’t believe how different she sounds! ” And yet another joined the chorus of amazement, adding: “Omg I can’t believe that’s her. She is so different to her character. What an actress!”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
