Emily Atack reveals real reason why nude scenes were vital for Disney drama Rivals

Emily Atack revealed why nude scenes were “integral” to new TV drama Rivals.

The stunner is set to appear in the eight-part series on Disney Plus alongside top actors like Alex Hassell and David Tennant.

Based on the sizzling novel by Jilly Cooper, also titled Rivals, this show dives into the fierce world of independent telly from the 80s. The plot gets juicy with tales of rivalry between a hotshot ex-Olympic rider turned Tory MP Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell, and a suave TV station boss Lord Tony Baddingham, none other than David Tennant.

In the mix is Emily, aged 34, who’s stepping up as Sarah Stratton, playing a crafty wife of the Prime Minister’s right-hand man, embodied by Rufus Jones. Sarah’s not shy, first making a splash on-screen in a risque tennis match in the buff with Rupert, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Chatting about filming the bold scene, which is straight from the pages of the book, Emily confessed she was worried initially since she’s no Serena Williams on the court. Nonetheless, she’s opened up about those nude moments, claiming they’re “integral” to the spicy tales being told.

She told Digital Spy: “We keep saying that the nudity and the sex scenes are a huge part of this, but there’s always a reason for them. We’re not just getting our kit off for no reason. They’re very integral to the storylines and characters.”

Emily had an instant connection with co-star Alex on set, telling press she felt “completely comfortable” around him. She doled out praise for the Rivals squad and intimacy advisors, expressing how the experience was both “liberating” and “safe”.

The star opened up about shooting steamy sequences: “We all knew each other really well by then. I think anybody that had nudity scenes and sex scenes, we all just really supported each other, so we loved talking about it. It was liberating and it was very safe.”

Joining the fray in Rivals is Aidan Turner of Poldark fame as Declan O’Hara from Corinium TV. None other than EastEnders star Danny Dyer appears to charm audiences as the lovable tech tycoon Freddie Jones.

Some more familiar faces cropping up include W1A’s Rufus Jones, Our Girl’s Luke Pasqualino, and Sex Education’s Bella Maclean among others.

Rivals premieres on Friday, October 18, on Disney+.
