Emmerdale police blunder spotted by eagle-eyed fans as next village death ‘confirmed’

Emmerdale fans don’t miss a trick.

During the latest instalment of the ITV soap on Friday (May 10), Ruby Milligan-Fox (Beth Cordingly) and Caleb Milligan (WIll Ash) learned the truth about the car crash which has left their son Nicky Milligan (Lewis Cope) in a coma.

They couple kept a vigil at their son’s bedside after he was rushed to hospital following a horror car crash. At the end of the episode, Caleb and Ruby were approached by a police officer, and immediately assumed the worst, convinced that Nicky was going to be arrested for the crash.

“Jumping the gun a bit aren’t you? We don’t know he’s going to wake up yet,” Caleb said as the officer arrived. Ruby was immediately apologetic, sharing: “We know he had alcohol in his system. It’s not like him, he’d never drink and drive. We taught him better than that.” However, the police officer looked confused by all that was going on.

Nicky Milligan is currently fighting for his life after a horrific car crash

“Sorry, your son wasn’t driving the vehicle. The bruising on his chest and shoulder was consistent with an airbag impact from the passenger side,” he said, leaving the two completely shocked.

Stunned, Ruby said: “Well if he wasn’t driving who was? Whoever it is left him for dead – who would do that?” whilst Caleb added: “Whoever it is, when I find them, they’re gonna wish they died in that accident.”

Driver Ethan Anderson feld the scene and left his friend for dead

Fans know Ethan Anderson (Emile John), who has been drinking alcohol, was driving the car, ran away from the scene of the crime and is keeping a huge secret from everyone in the village that he is responsible for what happened to Nicky.

Taking to social media following Caleb and Ruby’s discovery, one fan predicted: “Ethan!!!!! Hes off the show for ages then comes back and does this!!! Caleb will kill him.” Another added: “Has Ethan got fast trainers if not he blinking well needs to buy a pair ! Caleb and Cain are after him!.” A third person agreed: “It will take more than god to help Ethan when Caleb finds out!”

Others viewers distracted by how quick the coppers managed to work out Nicky wasn’t the driver despite it taking weeks for them to discover Angelica King was driving the car which killed Heath Hope, and not his accused twin sister Cathy Hope.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewers wrote: “So the police can work out he wasn’t driving in hours but in the last crash where the young lad was killed it took weeks and weeks. Who writes this tripe? #Emmerdale. A second added: “It takes the police 1 day to find out Nicky wasn’t driving from seatbelt brusing but with Cathy & Angelica.”

Emmerdale spoilers have confirmed Ethan will be arrested for his part in the crash next week but will Caleb and Ruby get to him before he finds out his fate.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
