Rita Simons has sent fans into meltdown as she shared some exciting news with fans.
The former EastEnders actress, best known for playing Roxy Mitchell in the BBC soap, recently joined confirmed she’s joined the cast of rival serial drama Hollyoaks as Marie Fielding.
Her new character is the mother of established character Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas Speed) and she’s set to cause shockwaves when she arrives in the village later this year.

Rita logged into her Instagram on Thursday (February 9) to share a behind-the-scenes clip with co-stars Glynis Barber and Tyler Conti. Tyler was newcomer Abe Fielding and Glynis portrays the role of Norma Crow but fans will remember that she once played Rita’s on-screen mum Glenda Mitchell in EastEnders.
In the video, Rita begins: “I’m sorry I’m holding the camera up” before noticing her plunging top on the screen and says “Oh, boobies”. After covering up her chest, she continues: “I’m sorry i’m holding the camera up like this but the lighting is so bad in here but has anyone seen my mum?”
Glynis, who standing next to Rita, appears on camera followed by Tyler, who can be seen running behind Rita and Glynis to get involved the action. Rita says: “Old family, new family, what show are we filming again?”. Glynis responds: “Coronation Street.” Rita adds: “Oh yeah, Coronation Street, see you soon” and blows kisses to the camera.
Unsurprisingly, Rita and Glynis’ on-screen reunion sent fans wild with some rushing to the comment section to leave a message. One fan gushed: “Cannot wait for u to be on my screen again.” Another added: “Love you girls x.” A third person said: “LOVE THIS OBSESSED.” A fourth social media user said: “I love the fact that you were both in EastRnders and now you’re both in Hollyoaks.”
Talking about her new character, Rita previously said “Marie’s got a lot of ties here, so I think there’s going to be quite a lot of trouble between quite a few characters, and you will just have to keep watching to see.” Tracksuit clad Marie will be sneaking into the Chester village this year after leaving prison, with her first order of business being to steal Mercedes McQueen’s (Jennifer Metcalfe) red dress from the McQueen washing line.
