Fans ask if ex-Oasis drummer and son of Beatles legend will return for 2025 tour

It’s been 5,488 days since feuding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher last performed on stage together as part of Oasis.

The dynamic duo behind the Manchester-born band, formed in 1991, rose to fame as one of Britain’s best thanks to classic bangers like Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger and Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

They went on to become one of the biggest bands in British music history before their eventual break-up in 2009. But with a hotly-anticipated reunion currently taking the world by storm, they have got fans all asking the same thing. Who will be joining them?

They all want to know who will be gracing the stage with the band of brothers and, more specifically, if legendary drummer Zak Starkey will be one of them. One fan took to X to say: “The real question is will Zak Starkey be backing the the Gallaghers?”

Debating the line-up, another said: “For best live you’ve gotta have Zak Starkey on drums.” Amid rumours the reunion will comprise of Liam and Noel Gallagher, Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock – one wasn’t convinced.

In response an eager fan said: “This is the perfect lineup, except I would replace Chris with Zak Starkey who was awesome as an Oasis drummer.”

Back in their heyday, Oasis initially consisted of Liam Gallagher on lead vocals, Paul Arthurs on guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass and Tony McCarroll on drums.

Liam also asked his older brother Noel Gallagher, on lead guitar and vocals, to join as a fifth member a few months later to finalise their crew. But in those pre-reunion Oasis years, between 1991 and 2009, the line-up was very much subject to change.

Band members came and went, with founding members Arthurs and McGuigan jumping ship in 1999. This was during the recording of the band’s fourth studio album Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, released the subsequent year.

They were replaced by former Heavy Stereo guitarist Gem Archer on guitar and former Ride guitarist Andy Bell on bass. It was then that White departed in 2004, replaced by guest drummer Zak Starkey, and later by Chris Sharrock.

Zak Starkey, son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, and member of the Who since 1996, had a shortlived stint with the Britpop band from 2004 to 2008. The third drummer to appear with Oasis, he’s often regarded as a fan favourite.

Clearly beloved, the reunion has got people hoping he might make an appearance despite reports of a messy departure from the band.

It was announced a year before the band split that he would not perform on the Dig Out Your Soul Tour because of an alleged fallout with Noel.

This bitter-sweet end, however, didn’t seem to put a damper on his memories having called his time as part of Oasis “massive.” He said they were among the smartest musicians he had ever met.

It remains to be seen though whether Starkey will be joining the 2025 Oasis tour but it seems he’d be very welcome, by the fans at least.
