Gilmore Girls star ‘ageing backwards’ 24 years after starring in hit series

Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham, who shot to fame as Lorelai in the hit noughties series, has been accused of “ageing backwards” by adoring fans.

The actress has taken an eight-year break from the big screen but still looks the same age as when she made her Gilmore Girls debut alongside stars like Alexis Bledel and Milo Ventimiglia. But now she’s back and has already landed an exciting new role.

Lauren, now 56, will star as the narrator in upcoming festive movie The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Based on the classic book by Barbara Robinson, the movie is set to be directed by Dallas Jenkins, who gushed to Deadline: “I’ve been preparing for and visualising this movie for over fifteen years, so it was going to be tough to meet my expectations.

“But working with incredible actors such as Lauren, who I adore, along with my Chosen cast members and fan favourites Liz, Vanessa, and Kirk, has exceeded my expectations […] We’ve been huge fans of Lauren’s for 25 years and have dreamed of one day working with her. She brings her signature warmth and charm that makes her perfect for this cast.”

Her last film role came in 2016 comedy Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, though she’s been keeping busy with TV work including roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Mighty Ducks. She’s also recently released a memoir – and while promoting it, she cleared up some rumours about dating her co-stars.

She confirmed she and Scott Patterson, who played her love interest Luke, “did not ever take our work outside of the work”. But she conceded: “But I did date a couple of the other guys. Guys, I mean, who else was I going to meet? I was there for 16 hours a day.”

Lauren went on to date her Parenthood co-star Peter Krause publicly for more than 10 years, but the pair split in 2022. She confessed that her on-screen mum Kelly Bishop, who played Emily in Gilmore Girls, encouraged her to get together with various boys.

She explained: “From the start of the show, Kelly [Bishop] named herself my TVM, or TV mom, by which she meant she was taking her character’s role seriously, beyond the pages or sets and out into the real world. In a maternal, protective way, she found most of my boyfriends at the time lacking, and once told me I needed someone who was more my equal, like ‘that wonderful actor on Six Feet Under.”

The actress also allegedly enjoyed a “flirty” fling with late Friends star Matthew Perry, who died in October 2023. The pair met at an event and exchanged flirtations, but it never went beyond that, with Lauren confessing he turned her into a “friend who I almost but never exactly dated” or “FWIABNED”.
