Hollyoaks fans have questioned where Ella’s mum Mandy was during her funeral.
Last month, Ella (Erin Palmer) was tragically killed after being struck by an oncoming car. It happened just moments before the collision at De Valley bypass, which involved several vehicles and left a number of residents fighting for their lives.
Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) had been driving at a high speed at the time and has now been blamed for Ella’s death. But fans know Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) was the person responsible.

Taking Leah Barnes (Ela-May Demircan) to hospital, Ste was speeding down the road as he attempted to get his daughter medical attention after she suffered with alcohol poisoning. As Leah was vomiting in the back seat, Ste took his eyes off the road for a moment and collided with Ella.
Ella’s funeral arrived during Tuesday’s episode (February 6) and saw the residents gather to say goodbye to the teenager. But one person who was notably missing was her mum, Mandy (Sarah Jayne Dunn).
Mandy hasn’t been seen since 2021 and was given an off-screen departure the following year. It was revealed she had decided to move to Los Angeles after accepting a job running a wellness retreat.
Fans will know there was controversy surrounding Sarah Jayne Dunn’s exit as soap producers axed her after she started an OnlyFans account. Both viewers of the soap and the actress, 42, criticised the decision.
During Ella’s funeral, fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to slam the soap for not bringing Mandy back to say goodbye to her daughter, with several suggesting they could have recast the role. One wrote: “What a ridiculous episode. Could they not just have hired another actress to play Mandy ? Like she wouldn’t have turned up for her daughter’s funeral!”
Another added: “It’s so sad Mandy missed the last few years of her Daughter’s life, especially after she fought so hard to stop Social Services taking her when she was younger. Not even a surprise return for the Funeral really? Although recast given the last actress was let go sadly.”
A third agreed: “There’s no way Mandy would have missed her daughter’s funeral this has been poorly filmed there could’ve been a Mandy lookalike leaving the village in a taxi with Cindy saying she couldn’t face the wake or Ella’s body could’ve been flown to America.”
A fourth weighed in: “It’s totally ridiculous no Mandy even if recast for daughter Ella’s funeral” as someone else shared: “Glad they have eventually remembered Tom was Ella’s uncle….. but has anyone told Mandy that Ella is dead?”
