I’m A Celeb’s Nicola McLean sets record straight after ITV aired explicit bikini blunder

Former I’m A Celebrity star Nicola McLean has opened up about her infamous bikini blunder from her 2008 stint in the jungle. Chatting exclusively to Daily Star, Nicola addressed the wardrobe malfunction.

She firmly denied any suggestion that the slip was a deliberate ploy for more screen time, saying: “My husband asked me that, I said ‘what do you think of me? Absolutely not.'” She explained how she managed to avoid using the provided “modesty smock” but ended up having an “accident.”

Nicola also mentioned that while the mishap wasn’t shown on the main ITV channel, it did make it onto the after-show on ITV2, adding: “I don’t think they aired it on ITV they aired it on ITV2 on the after thing.”

Reflecting on changes in media and public attitudes, she observed: “No, everything has changed so much you wouldn’t have half the stuff now even the way the tabloids write about you now and in a good way I guess but there was so much misogynistic behaviour around women especially glamour models back then.”

Despite knowing the incident would be broadcast, Nicola admitted she was still taken aback: “No, I knew they’d air it but I was shocked.” During her time on the show, Nicola became known for some iconic bikini moments and even cheekily requested a birthday bash for her breasts, which had turned one-year-old post-surgery. The then 23-year-old Page 3 sensation caused a stir in camp with her unusual celebration request, dashing into the Bush Telegraph to inform producers, only to interrupt fellow camper Brian Paddick’s private moment.

Now at 41, Nicola looks back on these memories with a mix of amusement and reflection on how times have changed. Nicola giggled: “It was really bad because it was Brian and I loved him, he was a sweet guy but he was in there walking about something really sad like a death or something.”

“And I was like no these need to be celebrated and said ‘C’mon, guys these need a birthday party’.” But did Nicola, who’s now hit the saucy age of 43, get any premium treatment on her boob’s birthday?

She quipped: “I don’t think they did, the campmates sang them happy birthday though. I was hoping the Bush Telegraph would give us brownies or something.”

“They didn’t appreciate them as much as they should have done, they got them a lot of press that year.”
