Katie Holmes has led tributes to her former co-star who suddenly passed away.
Actress Katie, 45, had learned of the death of her Dawson’s Creek co-star Obi Ndefo earlier this week, and took to her social media to give her tribute. The model reshared a snap that had been posted by fellow co-star Mary-Margaret Humes, 70.
The pair were both left in shock at Obi’s sudden passing at the age of 51 on Sunday (September 1). Katie saw fit to give her own little tribute to her co-star that left fans in floods of tears.

“He was wonderful to work with and such a kind man,” she penned alongside the snap that had been uploaded. “I send prayers and grace to his family – rest in peace,” followed by a red heart emoji.
Obi was best known for his stint in Dawson’s Creek, which he starred in from 1998 to 2002. In the show, he took on the role of Holmes’ brother-in-law Bodie Wells, and caused a stir wherever he went, adding to the drama of the series.
Some of Obi’s fellow co-stars also paid tribute upon learning of his tragic death. Among those who wished Obi well were lead star James van der Beek, as well as Joshua Jackson, who dubbed Obi a “dear friend” as he looked back on their time together.
Obi’s death was formally announced by his sister Nkem on a Facebook post on Saturday (August 31st). Penning in the clearly emotional post, she sobbed: “Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he’s finally at peace.”
Mary-Margaret, who played Katie’s character’s mother in the show offered her tribute on her Instagram page, admitting that she was having a tough time processing her co-star’s death. “These words don’t come easy; it’s hard for me to conceive that you have left us, my dear friend,” she wrote.
“You always were and always will be a bright shining light,” she added. “What an example of pure unfiltered love and tenacity you set as you faced life’s challenges of recent.”
As well as the fitting tribute, she also showed off a video of the sweet memories they had together, as well as snap of his fellow Dawson’s Creek co-stars. She also attached a old selfie of the pair, beaming with smiles to the camera.
The cause of Obi’s death is still unclear as a coroner is yet to make a full report on his passing. Obi had been going through numerous health struggles – particularly in 2019, when a car crash left him having to have both legs amputated.
He had been to a supermarket in Los Angeles and had just finished teaching a yoga class when he was hit by a car. The driver sped off after the incident, but Obi’s legs were barely staying on his body, with his right leg being totally severed from the rest of him.
