Kirsty Gallacher makes heartbreaking two-word admission about life post-divorce

TV host Kirsty Gallacher has opened up about her “horrendously lonely” period after her split from her ex-husband as she struggled with being alone.

Opening up to Aimee Fuller on the ‘Monday Mile’ podcast, the ex-Sky Sports News presenter laid bare her emotions after getting divorced from rugby star Paul Sampson.

Kirsty said: “When I got divorced, when I separated, obviously the kids would spend time with their father, and me. I was horrendously lonely, (I was) not in a good place, very sad. Because it was completely different and I actually don’t really love being on my own. I like being surrounded by family and noise.”

Despite the initial struggle, Kirsty, now 48, discloses how she’s learned to cherish her solitude: “I like my peace now and I’ve grown to like that and enjoy it, probably purely because I’m so busy, so juxtaposed to the mania sometimes of the house, it’s quite nice to have just a minute to kind of breathe.”

She confessed her early days of separation were challenging: “But really in the beginning it was very hard to get used to no kids around or just you know a different sort of situation. So I was always pining to meet someone, wanting to have someone around,” reports the Mirror.

On the podcast, the Smooth Radio presenter confessed her fears of not finding love post-divorce: “I had faith in meeting someone one day, I nearly lost faith and I’m very grateful that I met my bloke and I do think it gets more difficult later on (to meet someone later in life).”

It was only last year that Kirsty Gallacher’s new romance with former rugby hunk Darren Clayton came to light. Before this, she was married to Paul Sampson for five years, having walked down the aisle in 2010, and together they welcomed two sons into the world, Oscar and Jude.

Kirsty first graced our screens on Sky Sports News back in 1998. She’s since dazzled us on the telly in other ways, strutting her stuff on Strictly Come Dancing and chatting away on GB News, until a benign brain tumour diagnosis in 2021 forced her to step back.
