Love Island’s Malin Andersson has said she was “seconds from death” after her car caught on fire.
The TV star posted a message on Instagram saying that she was driving her two-year-old daughter Xaya when her BMW started smoking. She said she grabbed Xaya and ran down the road to safety, just minutes before the car “blew up”.
Malin, 32, posted: “This morning I was driving with Xaya and my car started smoking out of nowhere – I took me and Xaya out and ran with her down the side of the dual carriageway in time and it blew up and caught fire minutes later.” She then said she was handing over to someone else as she was “in shock” and staying off the platform.

“Me and Xaya are safe and sound,” she assured fans.

Malin, who was an Islander in 2016, later told The Sun: “I’m not usually affected by stuff, right? I’ve had the grief and all of that stuff happen to me, and I’ve kind of dealt with it, but never anything that’s put my own life with my daughter at risk. We were seconds from death.
“It’s always been someone around me died, does that make sense? But to feel Xaya and me in that situation was just next level.”

Malin – whose one-month-old baby girl Consy died in 2019 after being born prematurely – explained that a sign saying ‘engine failure’ had appeared and that she took Xaya and “put her on my back like Santa Claus”. Running from the car she was helped by a former soldier who told the panicked mum to get into his vehicle car with her daughter.
Her own car then went up in flames, with photographs in The Sun showing the plush vehicle on fire and then completely destroyed.

A BMW spokesperson told Daily Star: “We understand that this must have been a distressing experience for the customer involved and BMW takes any incident involving its vehicles very seriously.
“Although vehicle fires are rare, they can stem from a multitude of causes, including external factors. It is crucial to thoroughly investigate the individual case to determine the root cause accurately. Whenever BMW UK becomes aware of such incidents involving our vehicles, our technical inspectors are made available to support vehicle insurers in establishing the root cause. Until this has been determined, we are unable to comment further.”
