Madonna forced to make change to show as she wrongly tells crowd singer died from AIDS

Pop superstar Madonna has been forced to make an amendment to a segment of her Celebration Tour after making a huge blunder surrounding the death of Luther Vandross.

Soul legend Luther passed away in 2005 aged 54 after spending two weeks in a coma. Madonna, meanwhile, who has been touring the world since October to mark 40 years in music, mistakenly paid tribute to him in a section of her show about AIDS.

As well as performing a number of racy routines during all of her sell-out concerts, 65-year old Madge also salutes celebrities who have lost their lives to the condition in a montage on the big screen her 1986 song Live to Tell.

However, one such tribute was mistakenly aimed at Luther. Now, Madonna has been asked to remove it at the request of his estate.

The estate took action following her show on Saturday (February 24) in Sacramento, California, which also (correctly) paid tribute to Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, artist Keith Haring and photographer Herb Ritts.

A representative for the estate of Le Freak singer Luther told Page Six: “Luther Vandross passed away in 2005 due to complications from a stroke suffered two years earlier. While we appreciate Madonna’s recognition of those lives lost to Aids, Luther was never diagnosed with Aids or the HIV virus.”

The tribute in question has led to Luther’s estate to take action

The statement continued: “We’re not sure where she or her production team received false medical information claiming otherwise. We’re currently in contact with her management to remove Luther Vandross from the tribute.”

In 2017 Luther’s close pal Patti LaBelle revealed he never publicly came out as gay. She told Watch What Happens Live: We talked about it, [but] basically, he did not want his mother to be… although she might have known, but he wasn’t going to come out and say this to the world.”

Yesterday Madonna slammed her “ageist” critics in a new ad for Itau Bank, in which she declared: “They call me the Queen of Pop. I know it’s a compliment, but the monarchy is in the past. I am not. I have no age. I’m all ages.”

And she didn’t stop there, adding in the commercial: “It’s not about who I am. It’s about how many I am. Count my achievements, not the number of years I have lived on this planet. I am always re-inventing myself, so that I can keep being myself.”
