MAFS icon ‘ruined future series’ as stars would get ‘absolutely wasted’ on set

MAFS’ Amy Christophers has admitted that she and her co-stars would get “absolutely wasted” before filming.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Star, the reality TV personality explained: “This is a bit of a blurry subject because we were the first ones – it’s probably stricter now, I think we sort of messed it up for everybody because we would get absolutely wasted at the mixer!”

“Some of us would sneak in alcohol as well, so after that…we kind of ruined it for everybody because we got searched. [There were] secret stashes of prosecco on the go at all times, so in the end we’d sneak in the miniature ones because they didn’t do pat down [searches].”

“We were just shoving them down our trousers, like: ‘It’s fine, it’s fine!’ During commitment ceremonies there were no drinks at all, so we would meet up and have some sneaky prosecco and try to stop giggling.”

Amy opened up about her on-set antics

However, things didn’t always go to plan as sometimes the stars had hours to wait between scenes: “It was a bit touch and go at times! We would get pretty slaughtered at the mixers, but then you had two hours or so to wait around before you go into the dinner party so by that point you’ve sobered up again! You’re trying to drink, just like: ‘Eugh, no…,’ it did not go well!”

While preparing to film group scenes, Married At First Sight had strict rules when it came to what the contestants were allowed to wear, with stars forced to confirm their outfit choices with the production crew before any filming took place.

“We were just told not to wear really busy patterns, obviously because we’re on TV. We also had to send picture of what we were planning to wear, so if it was a group setting with the girls, a commitment ceremony, the hen parties, dinner parties, we had to send a picture to someone on production of what we were wearing.”

MAFS bosses had the power to order contestants to change their outfits

Amy went on to reveal that contestants were asked to change if their choices were too similar in colour, style or length: “On the hen party I had my outfit planned and then last minute, they were like: ‘No, you can’t wear that,’ – I plan every single outfit, I’m gonna have my hair like this, shoes, everything, then last minute I had to change!”

Christophers admitted that she “had a bit of a freak out” as she scrambled to decide what to wear for the filming session. Although she wasn’t a fan of her outfit at the time, Amy admitted that “looking back” she “understood” the choices that producers made – so everything “worked out okay”.
