“It is the most fabulous experience with the most fabulous people but it’s also one of the toughest things that I’ve ever tried to do and I’m literally shattered at the end of every day that we do.” The broadcaster was then quizzed about whether the daily training was a shock to the system.

He explained: “Well, to be fair, I’ve been really in heavy training now for six weeks in the lead up to this and I’d lost a lot of weight and did a lot of running and a lot of gym work to get my heart rate down and get fit with it. I thought I’d be ready to deal with it and I’m not ready at all.

“If anybody would like to donate their feet I need to change mine because they’ve had it!” he joked. However, his co-star Jamie Borthwick said he is refusing to ditch the booze and sex before his Strictly stint.

Elsewhere, the TV host told the Mirror that his fiancée Katie Dadzie has no fears of the show’s dreaded ‘curse’. Nick chuckled: “It’s not an issue. I barely have the energy to walk out of the car afterwards.

“Honestly, we did a day’s training yesterday and I literally crawled out of the car and sat with my feet in a bath of cold water for an hour when I got home.” The presenter is one of nine men competing in the show this year – which features the fewest number of women ever in the show’s history.
