Dario G star Paul Spencer has passed away at 53 after a battle with rectal cancer.
The 90s pop star was diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer last year. Heshot to fame in the dance trio, best known for their 1997 hit Sunnchyme and Carnival de Paris, the latter of which was recorded for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
Paul’s passing was confirmed by his family in a statement on Instagram. It read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today.”

“He was positive until the end but this was one battle he could not fight anymore. He leaves behind a wonderful musical legacy and many happy memories for many people. He will be sadly missed by everyone who loved him. Shine bright our big star.”
Last June, the musician bravely shared his cancer diagnosis on X, admitting it was tough to express his feelings but remained determined to stay upbeat. He wrote: “Hard to write this.
“I’ve just found out that I’ve got stage 4 rectal cancer and a shadow on my liver. That’s damn hard to read too I’m sure. Gonna give it my best shot though. Stay positive, cos I am. Always. Seeing the doctors on Friday to discuss the next steps.”
Tributes for Paul have poured in from fans and people in the music industry. Sigala wrote: “A true inspiration, he brought joy to so many people and will live on forever through his music.
“Paul told me many times over the last year, ‘Go get yourself checked,’ so I’m passing on that message to anyone reading this, as I’m sure he would want me to.”
“Lost for words,” said dance duo Phats and Small. “One of the good guys, you’ll be deeply missed brother.”
A fan shared: “Carnaval de Paris was such an anthem that summer. It’s a song that always takes me back to a time and a place in life, even beyond France ‘98. The same with Sunchyme and the underrated Dream To Me. Dario G/Paul Spencer made soundtracks to moments in life. RIP.”
Dario G’s hit Sunchyme sold over 600,000 copies in the UK and erached the number two spot in the UK Singles Charts. Carnaval De Paris entered the top five.
