Noughties rock group ‘unrecognisable’ as they join TikTok 24 years after major global hit

A US-based rock band have caused a stir on social media after they posted a video looking unrecognisable from their heyday.

The stars of Papa Roach shared a clip on their TikTok account last month where they participated in a new trend, each sharing who they are and what they do at home. The band was formed in 1993 in Vacaville, California, and its most famous lineup includes lead vocalist Jacoby Shaddix, guitarist Jerry Horton, bassist Tobin Esperance, and drummer Tony Palermo.

The video starts with Shaddix saying: “I’m the singer for Papa Roach but when I’m home, I do the dishes.” It then jumps to the next clip of Esperance adding: “I’m the bass player for Papa Roach, but when I’m home, I’m the pool cleaner.”

Palermo appears next in the video, saying: “I’m the drummer for Papa Roach, but when I’m home, I do all of the gardening” before Horton appears last saying: “I’m the guitar player for Papa Roach, but when I’m home, I take out the trash.”

The video has been quick to gain attention with over 585,000 views at the time of writing and just under 40,000 likes.

Fans were also quick to comment on the video and show their love for the band with one saying: “I remember the Bizzare festival in 2003 backstage. Times have changed and we had a great time. You’re still awesome.” Another added: “Nice to see a band where all the members are doing well.”

A third wrote: “I’m a fan of papa roach, but when I’m home I’m jamming out with my kids.”

The musicians looked completely different 24 years on from their smash hit “Last Resort”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Notable other songs include “Scars”, which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Getting Away with Murder”, which hit No. 2 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.
