During the glitzy 2024 National Television Awards, ITV audiences were treated to a surprise as chart-topper Olly Murs graced the stage. Host Joel Dommett introduced the 40 year old singer who belted out a medley of his biggest hits.
Hits like Dear Darlin’, Heart Skips a Beat, Dance With Me Tonight and Troublemaker had the stars in attendance grooving, but not everyone at home was impressed. Social media was quickly ablaze with reactions to Olly’s performance. One viewer didn’t mince words, tweeting: “PLEASE don’t make me listen to Olly Murs any longer.”
Another harsh critic posted: “Olly Murs is f***ing dreadful,” and one more added: “#ollymurs is painfully boring #NTA.” Yet, there was plenty of love for Olly too, with fans expressing their delight on Twitter. One fan cheered: “This is more like it! I Love Olly.”
Another praised: “Olly knows how to put on a performance,” and a loyal supporter claimed: “Olly Murs should have won X Factor in 09. I still stand by it.”
Post-performance, Olly was all smiles, clearly chuffed with his stint on stage. It marked his debut performance at the NTA, serenading the audience with his vocal prowess, reports the Express. In anticipation of his act, the NTA’s official Facebook page had teased fans, celebrating 15 years since Olly’s memorable X Factor journey began.

Once he was finished, Olly seemed thrilled with his performance as he was beaming from ear to ear. Speaking about his performance, Joel said: “Wow, let’s hear it for Olly Murs! So good. How good was that? It’s nice to see someone who can actually sing and dance, not me.”
It comes as the ITV host for the evening kicked off the ceremony in an unusual fashion as Joel erupted into a musical number.
He decided to pay tribute to some of the tv shows and celebrities nominated by mentioning them in a song, which included the likes of Ant & Dec, Davina McCall and Bradley Walsh. There was also a moment where Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke joined him on stage to dance.
During the night, viewers saw I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! win the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award while actor Toby Jones won for his performance in Mr Bates vs the Post Office.
The Traitors won for Best Reality Competition and Peter Ash won for Serial Drama Performance in Coronation Street.
The National Television Awards is available to watch on ITVX.
