Only Fools fans declare ‘ceasefire’ as they agree to ignore major plothole

Only Fools And Horses fans have been at each other as they can’t seem to agree on facts about the show.

Viewers have taken to online threads to chat about storylines on the show and a few have noticed some inconsistencies. The BBC series ran for 64 episodes which were all written by John Sullivan and broadcast from 1981-2003 across seven series and sporadic Christmas specials.

However, the show still has a huge fanbase now and often is the topic of debate on fan pages. One recent discussion led to a forced ‘ceasefire’ after viewers couldn’t agree on how the characters all knew one another.

One fan wrote: “In Boycie’s first appearance they don’t know him, Del Boy meet him through the poker games.”

A second said: “They knew each other in the second episode, when he buys a car off him and hides his Jaguar.”

While a third penned: “Also, they all went to school together, as evidenced by Slater inviting them all to the reunion. However, in the episode with the seance, despite going to school together, none of them knew Boycie’s name was Aubrey. You’d know that at school.”

In another post, one person wrote: “Most inconsistencies are explained by John Sullivan not having the next 22 years of storylines mapped out when he started writing the show. Trigger, Boycie and Denzil were clearly not originally conceived as Del’s school friends and were only retconned as such later on.”

In another part of the thread, the same fan urged a ceasefire, as the viewers were going round in circles over the show’s potholes. They said: “I think we need a general ceasefire on when characters met each other lol. All the main friends seemed to get retconned.

“Despite going to school together. Denzil didn’t seem to know Del’s story – believing he was a decorator

“Boycie was mentioned to Granda like he had never met him – “remember the second-hand car dealer…” (I imagine this was done to remind the audience who he was

“Trig was introduced to Dave in the first episode. Although even this is odd, as surely they would have crossed paths unless Trig had been inside for a while.”
