Ricky Gervais says he hasn’t had a proper holiday for 30 years – and he doesn’t want one

Ricky Gervais has revealed he hasn’t had a proper holiday for 30 years.

The star, 62, who played David Brent in The Office, said he is a workaholic and would hate to have a long break.

Asked in an online Q&A if he could take a week’s vacation and not think about work, he admitted: “No. I don’t think we’ve had a proper vacation – you know a week somewhere, walk and sit on a beach – for 30-odd years.

“I don’t think I’d do it now. I don’t think I’d like it. I can’t do one of those where you just sit around the pool for a week.

“I’d like a couple of days off. I like when I do a gig and have like 40 hours off. That’s nice.”

The After Life star added: “But I can’t do anything and not think of work.

“I’d like a doing-things holiday, a tennis or a winter holiday, but a week is even too long for that.

“That is my favourite thing, having time to create.” The comic is currently on his Ricky Gervais & Friends tour and developing a show for Netflix.

He also labelled terrestrial TV “s**te”, adding: “I just watch Netflix every night, or some sort of streaming.”
