Sex and the City legend set to lead BBC Radio 4 real-life drama on CIA trailblazer

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall is set to take the lead in a new BBC Radio 4 show about one of the most influential women in the CIA.

The drama, titled Central Intelligence, will tell the real-life story of CIA officer Eloise Page, who joined the agency on its inception day in 1947.

The series also boasts big names like Ed Harris and Johnny Flynn. Page rose through the ranks to become one of the most powerful figures in the male-dominated agency.

The 10-part series will delve into her relationships with early CIA leaders Allen Dulles, portrayed by Harris, and Richard Helms, played by Flynn.

Cattrall shot to fame in the US TV series Sex And The City, where she played the character Samantha Jones. Her film credits include Police Academy, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and Big Trouble In Little China.

One of her recent ventures was the beauty drama Glamorous on Netflix, which unfortunately got axed after just one season, reports the Manchester Evening News.

On her role in the upcoming Radio 4 drama, Cattrall expressed: “I was pleased to be asked to join BBC Radio 4’s Central Intelligence. A very well-written, factual and entertaining history of the Central Intelligence Agency from its uncertain inception.”

“A human story full of false starts, gaffes, blunders, and thankfully triumphs on the world stage. A thrilling story of Russian roulette. I was engrossed learning the true story of how this vital agency grew and prospered before and during the Cold War.”

The upcoming radio series is set to give listeners an insider’s perspective on the fiery debates and pivotal decisions at the CIA that have influenced global events and continue to impact today’s world. The show will feature the story of Page, whose “polite but sharp, brutally honest” approach stood out in an agency traditionally dominated by a “male, pale and Yale” elite.

Producers describe Page as an exceptional observer of the ambitions, values, strengths, and flaws of the early CIA chiefs, whose actions for better or worse have shaped our current reality.

Tune in for the premiere episode on Saturday, September 13, as part of the BBC’s Limelight podcast lineup.
