Strictly Come Dancing professional Kai Widdrington has just set a Guinness World Record.
The 29-year-old dancer, who does not have a celebrity partner on this year’s series, managed to make history by setting the record for the most Cha Cha Cha Time Steps performed in 30 seconds. The Strictly hunk pulled off the impressive feat on Thursday (December 5) night.
Kai had to face off against fellow Strictly star Neil Jones in the Cha Cha Cha challenge on Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two. It was hosted by Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood and Guinness World Records official Will Munford oversaw the attempts.

The Strictly pros have been competing with one another in the show’s annual Pro Challenge. And on Thursday, both Kai and Neil completed 15 steps during the 30 seconds, but one of Neil’s moves was disqualified, meaning Kai won and broke the record.

A Cha Cha Cha time step starts with a step to the side on straight legs, then a transfer of weight from one foot to the other, settling on each heel followed by a chasse. The dancers then repeat, but in the opposite direction.
The show pros had to keep their foot work ball flat throughout and the movement completed on both sides. Kai was awarded the Guinness World Record certificate on Thursday’s Strictly: It Takes Two at 18.30 on BBC Two and iPlayer.

Kai, who is still performing as a pro on Strictly, previously admitted he was gutted to not receive a celebrity to dance with on this year’s series. He told Daily Star: “Everyone wants to get a celebrity. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my time this series.
“Two boys couldn’t have one this series and sadly I am one of them. Some of us don’t get partners and that’s the way it is.” He added of his hopes for future series: “Let’s see what happens next year. Hopefully I’ll get one then.”

Last year, Kai was partnered with TV presenter Angela Rippon, who at 79 was the oldest contestant in the show’s history. They finished in 7th place, after the judges voted to save EastEnders star Bobby Brazier in the dance-off.
