Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans dealt crushing blow just hours before live BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has been dealt some more bad news just before Blackpool Week airs on TV.

The opera singer and his BBC pro partner Katya Jones were saved from elimination by head judge Shirley Ballas last weekend, a decision that proved very controversial with viewers of the BBC show. Wynne and Katya were in the bottom two against Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu, but the latter pair were sent packing.

However, Wynne has now been tipped as the favourite to be eliminated from Strictly this weekend. The bookmakers over at Ladbrokes have Wynne as the 4/6 favourite to be axed, ahead of Pete Wicks with odds of 3/1, suggesting the two could be competing against one another in the dance-off.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: We would be amazed if Wynne Evans is still on the show after this weekend, with one-way traffic for him getting the boot.”

It comes after Wynne and Katya withdrew from their appearance on Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two. They were scheduled to appear on the BBC2 show but were replaced by Dianne Buswell and Chris McCausland at the last minute.

Host Janette Manrara addressed the unexpected shake-up saying: “If you’ve got any questions like, ‘Why are Chris and Dianne on when yesterday we said it was going to be Wynne and Katya? ‘ It’s live TV, guys. You’ve got to roll with it, alright? Just roll with it.”

The next day, Wynne shared a photo taken at Blackpool Tower on Instagram but failed to mention why he and Katya had dropped out of the appearance. But he revealed on his Radio Wales show why he believed Shirley had saved him in the dance-off.

Joining Radio Wales co-stars Dot Davies and James Williams, Dot said it had been a “stressful” night, exclaiming: “I don’t want you to do that again!” She continued: “I’ve always said [Shirley’s] a good girl, I’ve always liked that Shirley. Good girl, saw sense!”

Wynne explained how it had felt being in the dance-off and why he felt he had been saved. “Gosh, I tell you. It was pretty nerve-wracking to say. And also I think a approach it from a different angle, I think, to some people because I’m having a good time, thrilled to be there.”

He admitted it felt like he hadn’t done anything in months other than dance training as he was so exhausted. “I was talking to Pete Wicks about this last night and we were saying, do you remember how we used to go to the pub with our mates? Cos we’ve been in Strictly, in the bubble, for three months and so I haven’t been out, I haven’t done anything. I mean, Sundays you can go out if you want – last night I was in the ice bath so yeah…”

Wynne and Katya will dance a Charleston to “Carmen Suite No. 1: 5. Les toréadors” by George Bizet on Saturday night (November 16). Blackpool Week sees Strictly move from Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire to the iconic Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.
