The Chase’s Bradley Walsh shocked as ‘new Chaser’ is introduced after huge blunder

Bradley Walsh was left in fits of laughter during the latest episode of The Chase as he jokingly introduced a brand new chaser called The Duchess.

The popular quiz show returned to screens for another nail-biting instalment on Tuesday (January 16) with a brand new set of contestants ready to win a huge wad of cash. But standing in their way was Chaser Shaun “The Dark Destroyer” Wallace.

But before the quizzing got underway, Bradley asked his contestants which one of the chasers they would like to go up against. One contestant got his names mixed up as he mentioned somebody who wasn’t one of the six chasers – Mark Labbett, Shaun, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis.

Replying to Bradley’s question, contestant number four, Mark said “The Duchess” which caused uproar in the ITV studio and amongst fans at home. It appears he meant to say The Governess (Anne).

And Bradley couldn’t resist poking fun at the player’s blunder, so he jokingly declared a new chaser was on the show. Laughing, he announced: “The Duchess, The Duchess! Oh, so we have a new chaser! That’s news to me there, Mark!”

Viewers at home were equally confused and were quick to joke about the name gaffe. Taking to X formerly known as Twitter one fan joked: “The duchess is my favourite chaser.”

Another fan said: “The Duchess? Do we have a new chaser that no one knows about?” While a third simply said: “The Duchess,” followed by laughing emojis.

But when Chaser Shaun appeared on the show, Bradley continued his joke and quickly labelled him as The Duchess instead of his stage name, The Dark Destroyer. But some fans thought that maybe Bradley shouldn’t continue his hilarious quip.

Mark’s blunder had viewers at home talking

Taking to Twitter again, one fan said: “I’ve no idea why seat 4 said ‘Duchess’ but to leave it in and keep referring to it is an awful, bullying thing to do.” While another fumed: “Shut the f**k up about the duchess, Walsh.”

Fans were excited to see whether Mark and his three other team mates- Jo, Rebeka and Tom were able to defeat Shaun after all four of them managed to make it to the final with £17,000 in the kitty. But although they answered 18 questions correctly, it wasn’t to be, as Shaun managed to beat them with seconds to spear.
