The Who rock star says two very British things help lift him from his daily depression

Rocker Pete Townshend reckons a cup of tea and two digestive biscuits helps lift him out of “suicidal” depression.

The 79-year-old The Who guitarist says the combo is all he needs to give him a boost every morning. He avoids professional help for his crippling “chemical depression”, opting instead to treat his symptoms with home comforts and writing journals.

Townshend wakes up each morning incredibly down, but does not want to talk to “f**king doctors” about it.

He said: “Every morning I rebuild myself in a sense with tea and coffee, and a few vitamin pills.

“If I start my journals before I have my cup of tea. I’ll paint a very bleak picture of my life. “Despite the fact that I have everything that I want and everything that I need. And I have had a really extraordinary life.”

His depression is also prevented if he wakes up in the early hours between 2am and 5am as he’s “still in the state that I was the day before”.

Townshend has been sober for about four decades after having previously struggled with alcoholism.

And he is critical of social media, where people claim to have all the solutions when it comes to mental health.

He added: “I think because of social media in particular, the way that we carelessly share not only our anxieties but also perhaps our solutions.

“We’re a bit careless about that because what works for me won’t necessarily work for you.”
