Vicky McClure from ITV’s Trigger Point has had a say after a show mistake made fans yell at their TVs.
Vicky, who plays Lana Washington, is back in London for the new series of the much-awaited ITV drama. She was training folks in Estonia for the Ukrainian front line but came back to the UK.
Her talk about London’s terror threat got cut short by a real terror event nearby. The latest episode of the second series just aired and viewers couldn’t wait to see it.

However, one bit really got them talking, and they weren’t happy. They went on Twitter to moan about Lana’s choice. One said: “I’m loving series 2 of #triggerpoint but I’ve noticed how Lana takes her helmet off just as she’s about to deal with high explosives / fiddle with bombs,” and another posted: “Lana puts bomb proof helmet on. Enters room. Finds bomb. Removes helmet. #TriggerPoint.”
Another asked: “Why did she take her helmet off though, when deactivating a bomb – surely that’s a bit daft?” But now Vicky’s given an answer about why Lana keeps taking off her helmet. Chatting to The Mirror and others, she said: “The helmet thing was a big thing last time everyone was screaming at the telly asking why on earth Lana was taking her helmet off in dangerous situations.”
“I had to keep explaining that if she kept it on and the bomb went off that close it wouldn’t protect her. If she takes it off, it is less distracting and won’t knock a potential device or obscure her vision.” She also had the option to wear a lighter costume version of the uniform for the role, or to wear the actual heavy and ‘not comfy’ uniform supplied to expos.

“It’s not comfy. It’s warm and I hate being cold so that I am always grateful for. There was a choice this season where costume said, ‘We could make something for you’, because it’s so incredibly heavy. I said no, I just feel like I’m an actor, when they shout cut I can just take the helmet off. I think it’s important for us to show the real deal,” she explained about her decision, “The gear wasn’t as accessible for women as most of those uniforms are typically made for men.”
